History
The pre-history of Sri Lanka dates back over 125,000 years Before Present (BP) combined with over 2,500 years of written
history. It used to be called "Ceylon" during the "British Colonisation" period and in 1948 Sri Lanka became an independent country.
The Sri Lanka monarchy was established in 543 BC with Prince Vijaya founding the Kingdom of Tambapanni and ended with Sri Vikrama
Rajasinha of Kandy in 1815. Over 2,000 years of monarchy were spread over many kingdoms and there are 3 main kingdoms called Anuradhapura,
Polonnaruwa and Kandy.
Heritage
There are many historical sites and ruins protected in Sri Lanka for visitors to experience. The main sites are located
in areas like Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy and are surrounded by over 200-year-old kingdoms. You will be surprised by the
ancient arts, architecture and hard work done by the ancient people which are not even possible today with all new technologies we have now.
"Sigiriya" is another example of such a place; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is called the Eighth Wonder of the World.
Nature
Home to beautiful and picturesque landscapes, mountains to waterfalls, paddy fields to lakes and rivers with old-style bridges, botanical gardens and nature reserves. All this comes with nice and friendly locals who are always ready to welcome you.
Wildlife
Sri Lanka is not a place to see wild animals in cages. It is one of the best places in Asia to see wildlife living in their own
environment. There are plenty of national parks around Sri Lanka for you to enjoy your holiday, including "Mihintale," the world’s first
reserve declared in the third century BC. Yala Natinal Park is the place to spot leopards, Udawalawa National Park is famous for seeing
hundreds of elephants, and Bundala National Park is a place for bird watchers.
Other animals you might spot include sambar (a large deer), spotted deer, buffalo, wild pig, stripe-necked and ruddy mongooses,
langur monkey, toque monkey, golden jackal and Indian palm civet. The combination of freshwater, marine, scrub and woodland areas ensures
a high diversity of birds. Indeed, the park hosts 220 different types, and serious twitchers have recorded 100 species in a single day.

Activities
This is a land for everybody to do their own special activities.
Nature walks and hiking are the most common activities for general visitors. Sri Lanka has many nice world famous beaches for surfing and
snorkeling. If you are a golfer, there are many golf courses around Sri Lanka for you to try golfing in a different environment. Royal Colombo
Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Sri Lanka and it celebrates its 136-year anniversary in 2017. Shandri-La's Golf & Country Club offers
you modest facilities with a beautifully landscaped par-70 course which takes you on a memorable golf experience. If you are a photography
enthusiast then don't looks further, as this is the place for you to capture landscapes to waterfalls, wild mammals to birds, architecture
to ruins and, finally, those beautiful people.
Food
Sri Lanka has its own recipes (not the same as "South Indian Food") which provide a unique experience for visitors. In a recent SBS TV show they said, "Sri Lanka, the beautiful spice island once known as Ceylon, is a rich melting pot of cuisine's. It seems every nationality that has visited and traded over the years has left its mark – the Dutch, Portuguese, English, Arabs, Malays, Moors and Indians. Most of the visitors love to taste "Kottu Roti," "Hoppers," "String Hoppers" and traditional "Sri Lankan Rice and Curry" during their stay.
